Science and Faith
I believe through the study of science we can learn more about God's incredible creation. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.:~ Romans 1:20.
The Intelligent Design movement is about people who believe that our Universe was created by an Intelligent Being and use leading scientists and current scientific research to explore this point. I think there is real scientific evidence for a designed world and that if asked, you should be able to defend your beliefs without excuse. If you would like more information on Intelligent Design from a scientific perspective please visit Evolution News and Views, the Discovery Institute, or click on the media photos I have provided below for more information on different products. I have read or watched these sources.
My personal testimony
From the back cover: "In this first DVD set of the TrueU series, Dr. Stephen Meyer plays a “philosophical survival game,” pitting four worldviews against one another in the quest to decide which one gives the best answers. Dr. Meyer examines the evidence and provides the tools needed for students to defend their faith and make it their own. This is the perfect resource for students preparing to enter college and a culture that may be hostile to their faith. "
From the back cover: "Who is God, and how can we know Him? The Bible claims to be the direct revelation of our Creator. So if the biblical record is true, it is a primary means by which the God of the universe has revealed Himself to mankind. However, if it can be proved false, then the God of whom it speaks is simply one more pretender in the assembly of gods that man has created.
In Is the Bible Reliable? Dr. Stephen Meyer challenges you to examine the historical and archaeological evidence to determine for yourself the veracity and accuracy of biblical Scripture. Is the Bible true? You decide."
From the back cover: "Who Is Jesus?, number three in the TrueU video series, is a ten-lesson DVD for teens and college students that focuses on the evidence for Jesus himself. Hosted and taught by Del Tackett, from Focus on the Family's The Truth Project, this product can be used as a small group or individual study to give students the confidence to speak about their faith, and to defend the existence and identity of Christ. It features strong historical evidence by demonstrating the validity of the key figures in involved in Jesus' trial and crucifixion, and a compelling argument for His divinity. The lessons delve into topics like: Is Jesus the only way to God?, His birth, life, death and resurrection. Also features other key experts like Lee Strobel, Michael Farris, Gary Habermas, Louis Lapides and Greg Koukl. This video is sure to provide students with Biblical facts and evidence that corroborate Jesus' life and divinity, and equip them to stand strong in their faith when the tough questions come at them."
From the back cover: "Throughout history butterflies have fascinated artists and philosophers, scientists and school children with their profound mystery and beauty. In Metamorphosis you will explore their remarkable world as few ever have before. Spectacular photography, computer animation and magnetic resonance imaging open once hidden doors to every stage of a butterfly's life-cycle. From an egg the size of a pinhead.to a magnificent flying insect. It is a transformation so incredible biologists have called it "butterfly magic."
From the back cover: "Flight: The Genius of Birds is the first film in Illustra Media's new series The Design of Life. Each episode explores a different realm of the animal kingdom and the remarkable biological systems that make life on Earth possible. Photographed in North America, England, Peru, Greenland, and Antarctica, Flight probes mysteries and mechanisms of a bird's anatomy, instinct, navigation, and embryology to reveal stunning provisions essential for life in the skies."
Editorial Review: "Living Waters: Intelligent Design in the Oceans of the Earth is the third film in Illustra Media's series THE DESIGN OF LIFE. Each episode explores a different realm of the animal kingdom and the remarkable biological systems that make life on Earth possible. Photographed in North America, England, Peru, Greenland, and Antarctica. Photographed throughout the Pacific, Caribbean, and Atlantic oceans, and the rivers of the Washington and Canada, LIVING WATERS explores the mysteries of Humpback whales, sea turtles, dolphins, and salmon from a perspective ignored by the BBC, National Geographic, and Discovery Channel. Instead of exalting a worldview based upon scientific materialism and undirected evolutionary processes, LIVING WATERS celebrates a timeless truth: every creature that swims, runs, flies, or crawls across our planet is the product not of genetic accidents or blind chance but of purpose, imagination, and design. This unforgettable documentary weaves a magnificent tapestry of cinematography, computer animation, original music, cutting-edge science, fascinating stories, and much more. For, beyond its aesthetic brilliance, LIVING WATERS is an experience that will touch the hearts and minds of anyone who has ever has ever paused to marvel at the wonders of the living world...and then pondered how they all came to be."
From the back cover: "Charles Darwin knew that there was a significant event in the history of life that his theory did not explain. In what is known today as the "Cambrian explosion," 530 million years ago many animals suddenly appeared in the fossil record without apparent ancestors in earlier layers of rock. In Darwin's Doubt Stephen C. Meyer tells the story of the mystery surrounding this explosion of animal life—a mystery that has intensified, not only because the expected ancestors of these animals have not been found, but also because scientists have learned more about what it takes to construct an animal.Expanding on the compelling case he presented in his last book, Signature in the Cell, Meyer argues that the theory of intelligent design—which holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection—is ultimately the best explanation for the origin of the Cambrian animals."
From the back cover: "A Compelling Case for Intelligent Design Based on Revolutionary Discoveries in ScienceIn Signature in the Cell, Stephen Meyer has written the first comprehensive DNA-based argument for intelligent design. As he tells the story of successive attempts to unravel a mystery that Charles Darwin did not address—how did life begin?—Meyer develops the case for this often-misunderstood theory using the same scientific method that Darwin himself pioneered. Offering a fresh perspective on one of the enduring mysteries of modern biology, Meyer convincingly reveals that the argument for intelligent design is not based on ignorance or "giving up on science," but instead on compelling, and mounting, scientific evidence."
From the back cover: "Big science has expelled smart new ideas from the classroom ... What they forgot is that every generation has its Rebel! That rebel, Ben Stein (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) travels the world on his quest, and learns an awe-inspiring truth … that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired – for the crime of merely believing that there might be evidence of design in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance. To which Ben Says: Enough! And then gets busy. NOBODY messes with Ben."_
